Take a moment to ponder the quote from Elizabeth Gilbert. While our main priority today was talking about time, I really wanted us to think about accessing creative living that already is a possibility within us.
We tend to think about issues with creativity as it relates to time, but in my humble opinion, it has more to do with how we prioritize what we already have access to. We already have all the tools we need, but it’s about taking the time to do the work to realize the tools are already in reach, but we are just not using them right or at all. It’s like using a fork, but put the tines part in your hand, and try scooping up all that rice with the skinny part. By the way, the skinny part’s name is formally the “handle.”
Anyway, on stream today we talked about these elements in the forms of prompts, using the wait and click method that seems to work pretty well for folks here. I’m going to post those questions here so you can do this exercise for yourself.
Courage: Think about the last creative thing you put out to be consumed/experienced by someone other than yourself. What was it? How did it make you feel to release it from your frame for public use?
Enchantment: When was the last time that you felt enchanted by something? What did it feel like in your body? How did it shape what you did next? What did you do next?
Permission: Think about the thing you created that you weren’t quite sure about putting out there - what was the moment you gave yourself permission like?
Trust: What was a moment when you didn’t trust yourself? What did that feel like in your body? What would have given you the courage to follow through?
Persistence: What keeps you coming back and trying again?
Use these questions to help you dig deep into your creative process and find the blocks that are popping up for you. Consider the tools you already have and the ones that you will need to be more creative in your life. Remember, you’re already creative. Just need it to come through all the noise. And honey, there’s a lot of noise.
